The Tip Calculator is designed for speed — most of the time, the whole interaction takes under 10 seconds, but here's what each control actually does.
The three inputs
Bill amount accepts whatever figure you're working from — pre-tax or post-tax, based on your own preference (see the pre-tax vs. post-tax guide for the trade-off). Tip percentage offers quick-select buttons for common values (10%, 15%, 18%, 20%, 25%) or a custom field for any other percentage.
Split between sets how many people are dividing the total, using simple plus and minus buttons or direct entry — defaulting to 1 for a single payer.
Reading the result
The result shows the tip amount and total bill clearly, and when splitting between more than one person, adds the per-person share for both the tip alone and the full total — useful when one person is collecting cash from the group and needs to know exactly what to ask each person for.
